Faith formation for children
Sunday School classes meet at 9:45am on Sunday mornings, from September through May.
- Preschool and kindergarten meet in the JK classroom in the southwest corner of Grace's lower level.
- Grades 1-4 gather for opening worship in the third-floor school commons and then move into nearby classrooms for age-group activities related to the lesson.
The Sunday School curriculum follows the lectionary (the scripture lessons appointed for Sunday worship throughout the church year). Children study the same Bible stories that are read and preached about in worship services.
Older students in grades 5–8 participate in Pre-Confirmation and Confirmation instruction
First Communion instruction
Fourth graders and their parents are invited to attend the Communion Retreat, led by Grace's pastors on a Friday evening and Saturday morning during Lent. It's an opportunity to learn about the sacrament of Holy Communion. Children who already receive communion are encouraged to attend the retreat along with their peers.
At the retreat students create a clay chalice to commemorate this important milestone in their faith life. Students also decorate a white garment with symbols of their life and faith.
Students will receive communion during worship services on Palm Sunday, April 5, and their garments and chalices will be on display during Family Sunday activities in Fellowship Hall at 9:45am. Students will have the opportunity to share their stories with other parents and children.
Vacation Bible School
Each June, shortly after school gets out, children ages 3 through rising fifth graders enjoy a full week of fun in Vacation Bible School. Classes meet in the morning. An extended day option is available for a fee for families who need childcare in the afternoon.
