Classes on Sunday mornings at 9:45am for children in grades 5-8 focus on preparation for confirmation. Students work with a group of volunteer adult teachers, as well as with the pastors and adult mentors from the congregation. They affirm their baptismal vows at the end of their eighth grade year, presenting a Witness Statement and participating in the Rite of Confirmation during a Sunday morning worship service.
The two-year pre-confirmation curriculum surveys the Bible, as children learn about God's promises and the stories of salvation in the Old Testament and study stories of the life and ministry of Jesus in the New Testament. Committed adult leaders guide their learning and discussion from week to week.
- Grade 5 Pre-Confirmation students meet in the 6th grade classroom on the third floor.
- Grade 6 Pre-Confirmation students meet in the 3-4 common room on the third floor.
As they prepare to affirm their baptismal vows in the Rite of Confirmation at the beginning of their 9th-grade year, students study the Bible and Martin Luther’s "Small Catechism" and explore and reflect upon their Lutheran-Christian identity.
- Grade 7 Confirmation students meet in the Extended Care room in the southeast corner of the lower level (formerly the nursery).
- Grade 8 Confirmation students meet in the school's Learning Center.
The Confirmation program also includes an annual retreat, mentorships, and other faith-forming activities.
