"Found by the Lost Messiah"
Matthew 16:21-28

“This must never happen to you!” That’s how Peter, having just rightly confessed Jesus as the Messiah, reacts when Jesus tells him about the suffering and death that is coming. As always, I can relate to Peter. I, too, do not seek suffering. I would prefer to avoid pain, for myself and for those I love. But the truth of the matter is that there is suffering and pain in this world. Often, in seeking to avoid suffering, we inflict it upon others. Jesus knows that the only way to undo it is to enter into it. Jesus goes to the cross and loses his life for the sake of the lost and suffering. Only in him do we find life. Only through him can we seek to alleviate this world’s pain as we point toward the promise of resurrected living.
