I have been serving as associate pastor at Grace since mid-November of 2020. It is a deep joy to partner with the people of Grace as we walk by the Spirit and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ in word and deed. I am passionate about finding connections between worship and life in the world. I particularly love partnering with God’s people of all ages in evangelism, connection, formation, and reflection, rooted in the God who has come down to us in Jesus Christ. Prior to joining the Grace staff I served in a number of diverse contexts including as a student pastor at Urban Village Church in Chicago and as the vicar at Christ Lutheran Church on Capitol HIll in Saint Paul, Minnesota. I hold degrees from Moody Bible Institute and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. I live in Oak Park with my husband, Ole. In my free time I enjoy spending time with family, running, reading, and cheering wholeheartedly for the Green Bay Packers, St. Louis Cardinals, and Chicago Blackhawks.

Julie Hinz
Coordinator of Discipleship and Fellowship
Julie Hinz
Serving as Grace’s Discipleship and Fellowship Coordinator since 2022 has been such a blessing. As a cradle Lutheran, I have always lived surrounded by communities of faith and thrived in those connections. With a degree in Communications and Theatre and a minor in Psychology, I have long been fascinated with people; how they respond to conflict or crises, who they believe themselves to be and how we become who God intended through self-reflection and leaning into our faith and our communities who give us identity. I continue to be fascinated by how the Spirit moves through us, changes us, opens us to God’s Word, and reveals new paths for our own ministries.
With MA in Theatre from the University of Chicago, and significant work in other churches, I am blessed to have a broad range of skills that serve the church. My work here allows me to bring curiosity and creativity to my work in ministry for the people of Grace. I am currently working toward my Deaconess Certification through the Lutheran Diaconal Association out of Valparaiso, IN and serve on the Lutheran Diaconal Conference Board of Directors. In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, puzzles, word games, naps, and spending time with my roommates and friends.
