Fourth Sunday in Lent
March 27, 2022
Holy Communion at 8:30 and 11am
Prayer of the Day
God of compassion, you welcome the wayward, and you embrace us all with your mercy. By our baptism clothe us with garments of your grace, and feed us at the table of your love, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
2 Corinthians 5:16-21
Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32
“Welcome Home to the New Creation”
Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32; 2 Corinthians 5:16-21
Grace always catches us by surprise. Sure, we speak and sing and theologize about grace all the time, but mostly we view the world from the same old human point of view. Today’s parable of this father and his two sons shows just how extravagant God truly is. The younger son’s prodigality is no match for the father’s. The waste of the one is overwhelmed by the extravagance of the other. Will we look at God’s grace through the eyes of the older brother? Or will we grab on to God’s grace and head on into the party? The fatted calf, the Lamb of God, has been slain. His lifeblood feeds the celebration. God, thank God, does not give us what we deserve. God give us Jesus and welcomes us home. Covered in the robe of his righteousness, we are new creations. Grace abounds!
