Bulletin for the service
The liturgies of the Triduum (the three days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday) are seen as one celebration over three days in which the central events of the Christian faith are commemorated. Maundy is derived from the Latin word for “commandment” or “mandate.” The overarching theme of this day is Jesus’ new commandment to his disciples: “Love one another even as I have loved you.” The foot washing is an exemplification of servanthood that Jesus enjoins upon all who follow him.
Prayer of the Day
Holy God, source of all love, on the night of his betrayal, Jesus gave us a new commandment, to love one another as he loves us. Write this commandment in our hearts, and give us the will to serve others as he was the servant of all, your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
